A song of wood
We all respond to harmony – in nature, in music, in design. Harmony has an innate elegance, an inner logic that is easy to understand – like a solo that simply cannot be any different.
When I make my furniture, I want each piece to be an expression of this harmony, with form continuing naturally into the space in which it finds itself.
Harmony demands balance. And my vision is to create designs that are elegant yet functional, with forms that inspire reflection without being pretentious.
I believe that everyone can sense the difference between furniture created with vision and craftsmanship, and furniture that is defined by the ability to use a machine tool. Like music, we respond to the human touch, to the unique and personal.
In music, notes occupy time. Once played they disappear, leaving only emotions. Wood is here to stay. Working with wood, each action has a consequence. It is an unforgiving medium demanding its due.
But get it right, and you get a song that keeps singing. An expression of freedom, strength and potential, here, now and tomorrow.

Creating has always been synonymous with freedom for me.
I love the process of figuring out how I can bring an idea to life, finding precisely the right materials and refining form and finish until I find the design harmony that I seek.
As a kid I was surrounded by my parents’ creative friends and relatives. I recall their animated discussions about form, images and language – and the sense of freedom and potential they radiated.

For 40 years I’ve been playing music expressing myself through my guitar. But in 2005 I discovered another channel – almost by accident.
I’d moved into a new house and needed a wardrobe. I couldn’t find one that I enjoyed looking at and could afford – and which didn’t reek of glue and particle board. I decided to design one and make it myself.
I became absorbed in finding my own design language and for the last twenty years I’ve been working with wood, creating furniture which I and others enjoy. I think of each of my pieces as a song in wood.
